Shaughnessy French Country Residence

In Vancouver’s historic Shaughnessy neighborhood, this Vancouver heritage home interior design project brings new life to an early 20th-century residence through a French Country-inspired renovation. With respect for the home’s original character, the redesign introduces modern comforts and European elegance in a way that feels warm, inviting, and enduring. The refreshed kitchen and powder room honour the home’s century-old craftsmanship while blending heritage charm with contemporary livability.

Thoughtfully preserving the kitchen’s original footprint, we introduced new functional zones that support busy family life without compromising architectural integrity. An entertainment nook, family pinboard, and back-entry closet enhance daily flow, while a built-in cookbook display, illuminated glassware cabinet, and updated lighting elevate convenience. These additions are seamlessly integrated into the home’s historic framework. Inspired by the clients’ love of French Country design, the custom beaded cabinetry and central island in soft sage green echo their travels and the lush garden beyond. A veined Calacatta marble countertop, handcrafted ceramic tile backsplash, hammered copper farmhouse sink, and custom bronze range hood reflect artisanal craftsmanship. Layered millwork, warm metals, and refined textures create a kitchen where European charm meets modern functionality.

A harmonious blend of history, elegance, and timeless European charm.

The powder room continues the theme of timeless elegance with dramatic navy-and-gold wallpaper that creates a jewel-box effect. Bronze details — including a French-designed sconce and custom switch plates — extend the material story from the kitchen. Refinished hardwood floors unify the spaces, preserving the home’s heritage character while elevating both rooms with subtle luxury. Together, these spaces reflect a thoughtful blend of history, beauty, and livable comfort — an artful evolution of a beloved Vancouver home.
