Perched above the rail lines in Vancouver’s historic Gastown district, this loft interior design project captures the enduring spirit of its industrial roots while embracing tailored modern elegance. With sweeping views of the train yards and North Shore mountains, the space sits at a crossroads between past and present—an urban retreat that balances gritty heritage with refined luxury. The design was envisioned to feel dark, moody, and masculine, echoing the neighborhood’s weathered charm while offering a quiet sense of elevated sophistication.
Original architectural elements were preserved and celebrated to honor the loft’s heritage. Exposed beams, concrete accents, and custom metalwork details showcase the building’s industrial history, while refined finishes and plush textures introduce warmth and comfort. The space achieves a harmonious balance between raw authenticity and thoughtful design, allowing old and new to coexist gracefully. It’s a design that balances moody minimalism with refined detail, embodying the project’s core philosophy of blending grit with polish.

Hungerford Interior Design approached this industrial loft renovation in Gastown with a richly layered palette of inky hues, tactile materials, and sculptural forms.
