Shaughnessy French Country Residence
The Shaughnessy Residence, a classic early 20th-century Vancouver home, exudes historical charm and elegance. The Kitchen and Powder Room were redesigned to enhance functionality and reflect the original character of the home, while incorporating the client’s unique needs. Maintaining the kitchen’s original footprint, we introduced customized zones like an entertainment area, a discreet pinboard, and a back closet for dog-walking essentials. Updates included practical features such as a cookbook display, an illuminated glassware cabinet, and a cohesive lighting refresh creates a warm, inviting flow throughout.
Inspired by our clients’ love of the French countryside, we selected a soft sage green for the kitchen island, echoing both their European travels and the home’s lush garden views. This hue extends into custom beaded cabinet panels and is beautifully complemented by a veined Calcutta marble island top, with warm hints of gold and sage. Perimeter millwork in soft vanilla pairs with a handmade ceramic backsplash, while a hammered copper farmhouse sink, and custom bronze hood add artisanal texture and patina. These elements, accented by delicate bronze hardware and the chandelier’s soft lines, create a space that feels both timeless and lived-in.

The original wood floors were carefully refinished to preserve their historical character, seamlessly flowing into an adjacent Powder Room. Here, bronze accents pair with a dramatic black-and-gold wallpaper, complemented by a French designer wall sconce and bronze switch plates for an elegant yet bold statement. Together, these choices lend a timeless quality to a beloved home, blending beauty and function in a space destined to age gracefully with each new memory.
