Janie Hungerford
Janie Hungerford’s design sensibility is rooted in a lifelong love of fashion, art, and the transformative power of well-crafted spaces. With over 17 years of experience, Janie was recognized as a Vancouver “40 Under 40” award winner in 2019, underscoring her impact and influence in the field. Her academic journey, spanning Film at Queen’s University, Art History in the UK, and Interior Design at Parsons in New York, enriched her appreciation for diverse design styles and cultural influences.
After gaining experience with a New York design firm, Janie returned to Vancouver, working with a high-end interior design company before establishing her own firm, Hungerford Interior Design. Influenced by her European and First Nations heritage, Janie’s approach blends a fearless use of color with layered textures and timeless elements, crafting spaces that are sophisticated, inviting, and deeply personal.
Beyond her work in design, Janie’s dedication to philanthropy is unwavering. Inspired by her family’s commitment to the Vancouver community, she has supported numerous local causes, including the BC Cancer Foundation, Dr. Peter’s Annual Gala, and the Vancouver Art Gallery, where she serves on the Board and fundraising committee. Janie is recognized as one of Vancouver’s most respected designers, celebrated for her dedication to creating beautiful, enduring spaces that reflect each client’s unique story.
Philanthropy
Janie’s journey in philanthropy began at an early age, inspired by her parents’ unwavering commitment to building a compassionate, vibrant Vancouver community. From her elementary school years, she sought ways to help those in need, whether through school projects or joining her family’s charitable efforts. This early exposure instilled in her a profound sense of purpose and a lifelong commitment to giving back.
Throughout her life, Janie has proudly supported numerous local organizations and causes, including serving on the committees for the BC Cancer Foundation and Dr. Peter’s Annual Gala, sitting on the Board of Governors for the BC Learning Centres for Children with Dyslexia, and helping organize the Children’s Help Phone Homes for the Holidays house tour. Currently, she sits on the Board of the Vancouver Art Gallery and actively contributes to the fundraising committee for its new building project.
