Philanthropy
Janie Hungerford is a proud supporter of several local charities. She began her philanthropic efforts at an early age, inspired by her parents’ passionate involvement in Vancouver communities. From the time she was in elementary school, she was always looking for ways to help those less fortunate, either through school projects or through her family’s efforts. Today, that passion continues to thrive. Janie’s enthusiasm transcends beyond her personal contribution, as she always strives to get those around her involved as well, knowing that true philanthropy is a community effort.

BC Cancer Foundation Inspiration Gala
Having lost her beloved sister-in-law and her grandmother to the disease, Janie is a passionate advocate for the BC Cancer Foundation. She is a vital force in the execution of the Inspiration Gala, the annual fundraiser that has raised over $27 million to date towards cancer research, and programs. As a committee member, she is involved in all the planning stages, from concept to implementation, including details such as event design and menu selection. Janie is also highly involved in BC Cancer Foundation’s fundraising towards special projects. In the last couple of years, they worked tirelessly to recruit Dr Florian Kuchenbauer, a world-renowned expert in blood cancers. Because of this success, the proceeds from the 2018 Inspiration Gala will benefit his groundbreaking research benefiting those affected by leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma.

Kids Help Phone Homes for the Holidays
Being a mother of four children, Janie is an avid supporter, and a former committee member of the annual Kids Help Phone’s Homes for the Holidays event. Each year, five beautiful homes, ranging from contemporary to traditional to modern, are given a holiday treatment to serve as inspiration for the event goers. One of Janie’s stunning designs was featured in Western Living magazine as a winning project, a cherry on top of this passion project.
